Hemp Gummies Side Effects – The Answers To All Your Questions

Hemp gummies are usually made from hemp oil. It does not contain THC extracted from marijuana, which means that they are non-psychoactive.

Similarly, they contain essential compounds like CBD and terpenes as well as certain vitamins like B12, D, and D3.

In this article, we are not going to discuss what hemp gummies are – because we all know about them.

In today’s post, we will be discussing hemp gummies’ side effects. Read on!

Side Effects

According to WebMD, the majority of the population won’t experience any adverse effects from Hemp.

Higher doses of CBD or Hemp can make you a little sleepy and may make you unfit to drive a car, Hemp usually does not cause any adverse side effects unless you have some sort of allergy to cannabinoids.

Some people show extreme sensitivity to CBD – an active compound present in products like hemp gummies.

So, if you are consuming hemp gummies, you need to know that you may experience some symptoms like diarrhea, dry mouth, and nausea.

However, you also need to know that these symptoms may be due to the medicine that was not properly prepared or was made in a facility with poor health and safety standards.

In addition, it is vital to understand that if you are using THC for recreational purposes, you might find the side effects diminished if you use CBD.

People who use THC for therapeutic purposes usually find that the properties are enhanced when they use hemp gummies with CBD in addition to THC.

1. Dryness of Mouth

Many people have a common phenomenon that when they use Hemp Gummies or any other CBD or THC products, they feel like their mouths are stuffed with cotton balls. Therefore, they drink a lot of water after consuming gummies.

The primary reason for your dry mouth is that when you consume a hemp gummy, the endocannabinoid system that has receptors on the salivary glands inhibits the glands’ secretion.

A number of recent research studies have found that the submandibular gland, which can produce more than 55% of saliva has cannabinoid receptors.

So, anandamide – which is an endocannabinoid that leads to dryness of mouth interacts with the receptors to inhibit the production of saliva by blocking the signals from the central nervous system to produce saliva.

2. Drowsiness

In general, hemp gummies do not induce drowsiness or sleepiness. However, the effect of CBD on humans usually differs from one person to another.

In most situations, hemp gummies containing a high amount of CBD can produce a wake-inducing effect, which means that you become more energetic and alter.

On the other hand, there are some people who consume the same hemp gummies in the same doses but will have just the opposite reaction.

So, in higher doses, the latter category of individuals has reported the feeling of drowsiness after the consumption of hemp gummies.

If you belong to the group of people that fall in this category, we recommend you not to drive a car or operate any heavy machinery – for your own safety and people around you.

Reducing the dosage is also a great option for those who experience sleepiness because of consuming hemp gummies.

3. Lightheadedness

This is not a common side effect and can be managed easily by drinking a caffeinated beverage, which will help your body to regain its optimal or normal balance quickly.

Similarly, a cup of coffee or tea can also do wonders in case you feel lightheadedness or dizziness.

However, you need to drink a lot of water so that your body is not dehydrated by caffeine.

4. Low Blood Pressure

Medical professionals believe that low blood pressure is the reason why some people feel lightheadedness after consuming hemp gummies.

While there is enough evidence that hemp gummies and related products can help people with diabetes and heart disorders by lowering their blood pressure, it can also have negative effects on individuals with normal blood pressure.

Recent research studies have shown that higher doses of the number of hemp gummies can cause a drop in your blood pressure levels. So, any hemp gummy that contains more than 0.3% THC should not be consumed.

If you are suffering from low blood pressure, you must not consume hemp gummies. It is important to consult a health professional before you consider consuming hemp gummies. Always drink a cup of coffee when you feel lightheaded.

5. Diarrhea and Weight Changes

Hemp gummies can also produce some common side effects like headaches, tiredness, diarrhea, as well as changes in appetite and weight.

As compared to other products such as CBD oil, hemp gummies are a quick and reliable relief for pain associated with diarrhea.

Hemp gummies, when consumed in higher amounts, can lead to weight loss.

Hemp gummies can likewise boost metabolism and reduce body fat. In some people, they can increase appetite, which can lead to increased weight gain.

So, always talk to your doctor before you consume hemp gummies.

6. Interaction with Medicines

If you are taking any medicine or drug for a pre-existing medical condition, then you need to be very careful of the effects of hemp gummies as it contains a high concentration of CBD – especially, the effects on drug metabolism in the liver.

Research studies have shown that CBD impedes the activity of enzymes found within the liver – for instance, cytochrome P450 enzyme system, which metabolizes medicinal drugs that are meant for human consumption.

7. Poor Digestion and Fatigue

There have been many reports and online discussion about hemp gummies that contain CBD can cause digestive problems.

Some hemp gummies are approved by the FDA – yet many consumers say that they suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and changes in appetite.

Another side effect of consuming hemp gummies is fatigue, which means that exposure to higher amounts of gummies can increase the sleeping time.

So, try to avoid eating many hemp candies than the recommended amount.

Some people have also reported feeling tired after eating hemp gummies. Therefore, we recommend not taking hemp gummies before you drive or operate heavy machinery.

  1. Wow, I enjoyed reading this post. I didn’t know much about the subject before reading about it.

Very good information to keep in mind. Keep up writing excellent articles!

  2. Hey there! I really liked this Article and as it happens I came across some Hemp Bears the other week. These were alledgedly containing CBD, but I couldn’t tell, since I smoke a lot of the original plant. I didn’t experience any bad side effects though so happy munchin’!

    1. Yes, when you are smoking the THC, it is likely that you won’t experience the effects and if you do, they will probably be reduced. Thank you for stopping by and I hope to hear from you again in the future.

    1. Talking from my own personal experiences, I have experienced no side effects, so, therefore, the benefits definitely outweigh the risks. Every person is however different, therefore I would recommend proceeding following the precautions listed.

  3. Would Hemp or CBD ever be suggested to use by a doctor. Personally, I already suffer from a few of these side effects already, with a few medications that already cause a few of the other ones. I have minimal information but a lot of interest in CBD, as prescribed medications are not something I want to be taking and it seems like they could be replaced, given the benefits and the side effects. Good read.

    1. Thank you for raising such a valid question. Yes, fortunately, some doctors do recommend their patients a course of CBD or medical marijuana. This will however heavily depend on where you live because of regulations. I, like you, do not like taking prescription drugs either and prefer natural alternatives when possible. If I were in your shoes, I would raise my concerns with my doctor and go from there. In my experience, some doctors agree with the use of CBD and others do not, so it is likely to come down to their personal preferences and beliefs. I hope this helps.
