Does Apple Cider Vinegar Work? – Everything You Need to Know

Everyone on the planet knows about apple cider vinegar. People use fermented apple juice to made apple cider vinegar. This is because all vinegar was once a wine.

Most often, we use it in marinades, vinaigrettes, salad dressings, chutneys, and food preservatives. You can easily make apple cider vinegar – the process is easy as you just need to crush apples and then squeeze out the juice.

It is no surprise to say that apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular vinegars in the natural health community.

This is because it has a lot of health benefits – and you will be astonished to know that its numerous benefits are largely supported by scientific studies – which further authenticate its usefulness.

In this article, we will explore the question “Does apple cider vinegar work?”

The Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Some of the health benefits include reduced symptoms of diabetes, lower blood sugar levels, reduced cholesterol, and weight loss. Amazing, isn’t it? It really is a great home remedy.

You can use it to treat almost everything – for instance, from a sore throat to a natural deodorizer.

To help a sore throat, drink a cup of warm water that has one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in along with a tablespoon of honey. It works because the vinegar has antibacterial properties which may provide some relief to a sore throat.

To deodorize bad odors mix apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle with water and use when necessary. The anti-bacterial properties will get rid of the germs and the accompanying bad odor.

Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which blocks enzymes and helps your cells or tissues digest starch – and this results in a smaller blood glucose response after starchy meals like bread or pasta.

Proponents of apple cider vinegar claim that consuming it with meals offers you a satiating effect. Recently, Japanese doctoral students conducted a research study to examine the effects of apple cider vinegar on body fat in obese adults.

The study found that participants who had consumed apple cider vinegar had lost 2-3 pounds in body weight.

Moreover, the research study concluded that apple cider vinegar is highly effective in reducing waist circumference, visceral fat, triglycerides, and body mass index (BMI).

Simply put, apple cider vinegar offers numerous health benefits. We can talk about its health and therapeutic benefits for hours – maybe some other time!

Anyway, many people ask us: is apple cider vinegar a good cleaning product? Wait! What? Cleaning product? Yes, you read it right – a cleaning product. Wow!

Apple cider vinegar is effective for killing bacteria, fungi, and other microbes that can contaminate your home’s environment. Thus, we can say that it is a cost-effective eco-friendly homemade product.

Moreover, apple cider vinegar is great for giving your home windows and mirrors, no-wax floors, cabinets, and wood paneling an extra-clean shine.

Use apple cider vinegar to get rid of stubborn stains – for instance, sweaty armpits are slightly acidic, which means that these stains will dissolve away when they come in contact with another acidic substance or product such as apple cider vinegar.

You can also use it to get a dog or cat urine out of carpets. Lastly, the pungent smell of apple cider vinegar will keep your pets away from the areas or places you don’t want them to go.

  1. This is awesome! I realized that apple cider vinegar is an excellent source of things, but I didn’t know what things. lol
There’s also been confusion over whether the vinegar should be normal or white. I’ve read that white is for cleaning and apple is for ingesting. You have done a good deal of research. Thank you for posting!!

    1. Cleaning vinegar is the most effective for cleaning, but there is no reason why you couldn’t use apple cider vinegar. It really just comes down to personal preference. Thank you for stopping by.

  2. Nice article! There was a time when Apple Cider Vinegar was the craze and was pushed by media as having several health benefits. I didn’t know it was also used as a cleaning agent, just like baking soda! Thanks for the article, should start to stock up on ACV as a natural house cleaner.

Do you have any recommendations on how to remove the pungent smell? Thats probably the only thing that I’m not too keen on, but would love to start using it around the house. I just dont want the house to smell like ACV!

    1. Hello again Mark,

You can remove the intensity of the smell by adding a couple of drops of pure essential oils. For cleaning, I would recommend lemon but all citrus is effective for cleaning. I now prefer the smell and would never return to toxic cleaning products.

      I hope this is helpful.

  3. Hi Eco Catherine, I enjoyed reading your great article on Does Apple Cider Vinegar Work? Everything You Need To Know. There’s a lot of helpful and interesting information.

I use Apple Cider Vinegar for my homemade salad dressing. Sometimes I will put 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in my green tea with lemon. It’s a healthy bacteria for the gut. Also, I will put just a little Apple Cider Vinegar in dogs water bowl.

I agree with you that Apple Cider Vinegar has a lot of health benefits, but I didn’t know that you can use it as a cleaning agent. The next time I clean my windows and mirrors, I am going to try it. Thank You For Sharing!

    Best Wishes,
    Margaret

    1. Hi Margaret,

Thank you so much fo reding. I love your idea of mixing apple cider vinegar with your green tea. It is a very healthy product for the gut.

It works wonderfully on windows, please reach out if I can assist you in any way.

  4. Great info! Question for you, I started to use apple cider vinegar and then stopped for awhile. Does apple cider vinegar go bad? I have one that is open but was kept in the fridge and another that was opened (why I had 2 open I have no idea) and was left in the pantry? Should I get rid of either of these, or both? Thanks!

    1. Hi Heidi,
Apple cider vinegar does not go bad, however, the quality will deteriorate. Many people don’t like the taste when this happens and it can go cloudy. I hope this helps. Just let me know if you have any more questions.

  5. Hi Catherine,

I fully agree with you. Apple cider vinegar has been a primary go-to for me when I have a sore throat and cough. We also leverage it as our household cleaning agent. It has been a couple of years now that we have saved a lot by using apple cider vinegar in place of the chemical-based and branded cleaning agents.

    1. Hello Junior,
I am pleased that you are already taking advantage of th benefits of apple cider vinegar. It is amazing how much money can be saved when you switch to natural cleaning alternatives. Thank you for reading.

  6. Hi Catherine,
Excellent post about ACV. I knew about it being used for pretty much everything but haven’t started using it for ‘Stuff’. It never occurred to me read about its use, but today i read it and as you mentioned its a great product for household cleaning. You have convinced me to start using it.
As you mentioned in your post that you just have to squeeze the apples to make a ACV. Is it really what it is? Would love the full recipe? Please share with us if you know how to make it at home.
    Thank you

    1. Hi,

Yes, it really is very simple with only three ingredients: apple scraps, cane sugar and filtered water. I will add the recipe to the post.
I hope this helps. Thank you for reading.
