Cleaning Products Online – Everything You Need to Know

Often times, natural cleaning products are not subject to guidelines and labeling. Therefore, it is necessary to do thorough research before you opt to buy natural cleaning products online.

Well, there are thousands of online stores that sell thousands of products – including natural cleaning products. The question is: are these products really natural?

Well, when you browse the internet, on almost every online store, they claim that their products are the best. This makes the users or buyers confused about the quality of the products.

So, in this article, we will give you some essential tips which you can apply or follow to buy the best natural cleaning products online. Read on!

Because buyers have been pushing for information, government agencies, consumer groups, and some retailers have developed sophisticated rating scales, which can help you choose natural cleaning products for your needs.

These measurements or scales consider the product ingredients and the willingness of the manufacturer to make the list of ingredients available to the public. These scales are:

  • Eco-Scale Rating System

Consider the following factors when you choose to buy natural or green cleaning products online.

1. Reduced Environmental Impact

Always check the description of the product on various online stores. If you find similarity in the descriptions given by different online stores, you are good to go. At the same time, check for online reviews.

Using eco-friendly cleaning products help with water and air pollution. This is because the chemical from mainstream products enter our waterways when they go down our drains. They seep out and into our environment, polluting the land and causing harm to our planet and the ecosystems.

Natural and environmentally friendly products also lessen ozone depletion. Likewise, it promotes recycling, which means a reduced number of products going to the landfill site and less disposal of toxic products.

Many companies that create natural and environmentally friendly products are conscious of the packaging they use and where it is sourced from.

I like to look for a product that uses minimal packaging that is preferably made from recycled waste or is itself recyclable.

2. Check Ingredients

The second important thing you need to consider is the ingredients of the products.

If the product does not tell you what is in it or what are its ingredients – then stop right there!

Send that store a message and tell them about the quality of the product. Don’t purchase their products.

Some countries have regulations that force companies to be open about all the chemicals used to create a product and others do not.

If your country does not have a regulation like this I would suggest writing to your local government. Raising your concerns with the people who have the ability to make a change is the first step towards making the change you want to see.

In addition, transparency is important when you look for natural cleaning products in this day and age. Well, there are many natural products available online but without a disclosed list of ingredients.

This means the product you pick is not safe to use. No ingredient list means a big red flag on the product, which is not worth the risk.

3. Avoid Chemicals

People find thousands of natural cleaning products online – we want to urge you that not all of them are natural.

Many of them are made up of harmful chemicals such as Ammonia, Antibacterial & Disinfectants such as Bleach and Triclosan, Butyl Glycol, Ethylene Glycol, Monobutyl, Chlorine Bleach, Petroleum Solvents, Phosphates, and Phthalates.

So, while checking ingredients, if you find any of these harmful chemicals listed, don’t buy the product.

4. Outsmart Labeling Tricks

Just because the description of the product says “Non-Toxic,” “Eco-Friendly,” or “Natural” does not mean that it is the safe product.

Always verify the information listed on the product packaging or in the description.

Look at the ingredients of the product and judge for yourself.

5. Check for Authoritativeness

Online stores tell you right on the description of the product if they are dangerous. Indeed, this is great news, though you should look at several cleaning products before you find the one that satisfies you.

Avoid cleaning products with terms like corrosive, caution, poison, irritant, danger, and/or warning.

Also, check for the reliability and authoritativeness of the online store that sells natural cleaning products.

Is it a genuine company? Does it sell FDA-approved products? Is it licensed? What does the online community say about it? Does it have a positive reputation online?

All these things are important to know before you make the purchase – after all, you can’t compromise on your health and the environment.

  2. Hi! Thanks for your article. I’ve been considering going green for a while now but must admit that I didn’t know exactly what to look for as I know that I could rely on what the companies were saying such as “natural” and “safe”. This information was helpful and will encourage me to try a little bit harder in my research in the future.

    Thank you for that! 🙂

    1. Hey Nathalie,

You are more than welcome. Products that we find in the stores are designed to be appealing to consumers so that people buy them.
So in a way, companies are intentionally confusing us for their personal gain. I think this manipulation is wrong.
Good luck with your transition to green and please remember that I am always available if you have any further questions.
      All the best.
