Welcome to About Going Green where building an environmentally friendly lifestyle and healthy future for you, your loved ones and our planet can be achieved.

Here at About Going Green, you will find a wealth of information, broken down into easy-to-follow steps that will enable you to reduce your carbon footprint daily and improve the quality of your life and the life of future generations.

I grew up in a small town. I learned so much about the world as a youth, and quickly realized that my optimistic childhood perception of the world was very different from the reality I found myself in.

How does a young person find their place in a world, develop their own identity, if they find their environment so unfamiliar? Overpopulation, resource depletion, natural disasters, nuclear issues, intensive farming, animal rights issues, genetically modified food, the meat industry, pollution, toxicants, world war, worldwide hunger, droughts, climate change.

The list goes on…!

Naturally, I surrounded myself with like-minded people, which fortunately there was an abundance of. The town was known for its education and the citizens’ liberal ways of thinking.

There were many good people. Together we observed life, its philosophy and questioned everything about it. Many of us were fighting personal battles inside – being young and wanting to enjoy all of life’s wonders, combined with knowledge of our future extinction and being young and not knowing what you can do to make a difference.

Many people turned to drugs, often to escape the reality they found themselves in. Although this was not always the case.

As far as I could see it, we all had two choices:

1. Do nothing a watch the world wither around us, or;

2. Stand up and make a change.

We were not afraid to think outside the box or act upon our thoughts. We gave each other the confidence we needed to find our place in society.

Many of us decided to stand up for what we believed in, expressing our opinions and believes in any way we each knew how – by becoming active members of our community, through creativity such as mucic art, musing, and writing.

If we couldn’t fit into the world we found ourselves in and knew that future generations may not be able to enjoy life’s pleasures that we do, we needed to make a change.

What do you know About Going Green?

I want to share any information about Green Living to help you, others and I learn about how to protect our planet for future generations, so it is capable of sustaining humanity for many generations to come.

To do this the planet must be healthy. Therefore, we must address harmful human activity which causes environmental issues.

Our society, for example, the medical industry, is built upon a model where we wait until a problem happens before attempting to fix it.

This has happened due to the slow rate that knowledge develops. There have been many models for medicine throughout history, slowly evolving as we learn more. This old model of fixing problems will not work when trying to regenerate our planet.

However, in this age, the age of the internet, knowledge is accessible to nearly everybody now.

I also care about living a happy, fulfilling and healthy lifestyle. I want to help you achieve this too.

There are so many aspects to our everyday lives which we view as normal yet these practices are extremely harmful to our health and the health of our environment, and many have toxic effects on our bodies, and animal life and plant life too.

We can’t solve global issues single handily. But we can do our part to contribute towards the bigger picture. It is OK to think small.

When individuals make small changes, together we are having a big impact. We are stronger together too.

If we build a solid community base that supports and teaches one another about all the green issues they might be concerned with, then I believe we can all take preventable measures to reduce the impact of our existence.

I want to support our society to move towards a greener future, living healthier and more fulfilling lifestyles. I want to help you to join me in going green!

  1. Hi Catherine, I like your ideas and your good mind. I can understand it in deep, even though my English is not well. But, I’m happy while I’m reading. I agreed with you that” We were not afraid to think outside the box or act upon our thoughts. We gave each other the confidence we needed to find our place in society.” I’m trying to do that.

I wish that you will return many great things back to you same as your positive personalities.

we should save our world to be green!. I’m waiting for your next content soon.

    All the best,

    1. Good morning Vannalee (such a beautiful name by the way!),

Thank you for your comment and I understand your message perfectly. I always appreciate it when other people try to speak my language, especially during their learning process – so thank you.

I do hope to make a difference and thank you for your kind words.

Watch this space. More posts coming soon!

      Kind regards,

  2. Hi!
I wonder what do you make of the latest Amazonian fires? What can we as individuals do to save the planet, when on the other side of the world something like that ravages?

    1. Hello and welcome!

First of all, I would just like to congratulate you on being somebody who is current on world news that lives outside the mainstream media!

Sadly those fires are not just taking place in the Amazon. There have been reports in Russia and higher fire frequencies in the USA too! Global warming is a worldwide crisis and fires are only one example. Droughts and flooding have steadily been on the rise for quite some time now too.

When something as drastic as this takes place, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that this is something that is out of my control and there is nothing I can do to change it. We feel helpless.

But that doesn’t need to be the case. Yes, you may have a family to depend on you so flying out and volunteering with the firefighters may not be a logical option for you right now. But there is so much you can do outside of that. I will be going into further details about what you can do here in future posts.

For now, just focus on the little things you can do. Start by aiming to discuss a difficult global issue with one person a day. Could you imagine the effect you could have if you were able to encourage that person to do the same thing too, and so on and so on?

I hope this gives you a good starting point and I am absolutely delighted that you would like to learn more.

Watch this space and all the very best!

  3. It is refreshing to see the need to fight is not dying with my generation. It can feel like an uphill battle.

I was raised in Dallas, Texas. Pollution, noise, and waste were a way of life. We knew about recycling but did not understand what was happening to our planet.

I have heard people say why should I care when others do not, the fact is if everyone who cared would change, that alone would make a difference.

Thank you for developing a site to help people know the things they can do change. I can not wait to see all the great tips you post and see what changes I can make in my own life.

    1. Good Morning Dovey!

I am pleased you stopped by and read my page. I agree activism can be physically and mentally exhausting.
Yet, there are so many small changes that ordinary people can make to fight climate change, and as you say – make a difference.
It is easy to get caught up in the big issues but really it’s the little things that count.

I hope to hear from you again and have a great day.

      Eco Catherine.
